Stopped at Rancheria Restaurant and they had a HUGE stove going. We all hung around it to warm up. Breakfast was good. We'd recommend it to any of you going on the Alaska highway. Here are some of the views we saw as we came down the highway.
We had a light day of riding, just about 275 miles. Rolled into Whitehorse, the capital of the Yukon Territory about 1:30. Visited the Beringia Interpretive Centre, a prehistoric journey and voyage into the past when woolly mammoths and scimitar cats used to roam. These large mammals of an age long ago are recalled in the First Nations legends of gigantic animals and the creation of the world from a flooded land. This was pretty intereting. I didn't realize there used to be a land bridge that joined present day Alaska with eastern Siberia. After this, we went on to the Yukon Transportation Museum to learn more about how people traveled during the gold rush.
Bill and Harry also had to wash their bikes. Take a look at the before and after pics.
Whitehorse is a large town for the Yukon and is named after the historic rapids on the Yukon River which resembled the flowing manes of charging white horses. Whitehorse was the stepping off point to the Klondike Gold Rush over 100 years ago. The town of Whitehorse is spreadout along the Yukon River. We ate at the Klondike Rib and Salmon restaurant. Another one we would highly recommend.
About 600 miles to go to Fairbanks but we aren't planning to make it there tomorrow.
