Friday--starting the trek home

We wanted one more meal of seafood so we stopped at Wiscasset, a little seaport town and had seafood chowder and lobster roll along the harbor. It was delicious and very fitting for our last meal in Maine.

Thursday--Hiking around Acadia National Park

Drove about two hours North of Tenants Harbor to Bar Harbor. Eight years ago in 2004, just about the same days, we were in Bar Harbor with our motorcycles.  We were taking the ferry to Nova Scotia .  This time, we just hiked Acadia NP. Had a beautiful day walking the trails along the ocean. You could see so far.  It was that clear. We didn't have the heat like central PA was having.

Monhegn Island

Another pic

Wednssday -- boat ride to Monhegan Island

Today we had tickets to take the ferry from Port Clyde to Mohegan Island, about 1 hour.

While vetting on the boat, Bill saw someone he knew -- Kelly OBrian.  You just never know who you'll see.  Kelly worked for Extension several years ago and now works cor tbe Chesapeake Foundation in Harrisburg.

Lenny slept most of the way on the boat ride while Bill and I took in the sights.

The island was beautiful. Little shops and lots of hiking trails.  We set off on a trail that took us around one side of the island elongate coast.  Gorgeous Rocky coast with blue sea water.  There was a breeze blowing most of the way, otherwise it would have really been hot. After eating some food, we went into some of the shops.  Dogs were allowed in the one store so Lenny went in and played with Millie, a golden. The made quite a spectacle.  Everyone was talking about the little dog taking the big dog.  We think the golden just wanted a friend so she would do whatever Lenny wanted.

We took another hike around lobster cove before we had to board the boat back to Port Clyde. With two tired people one dog.

Great day.

Tuesday- more lighthouse

In my quest to find more lighthouses, we found one on Indian Island. We could just barely make it out because it was too  far away to see it very well (we're still counting it though) .  The next lighthouse was hard to find in Rockport.  We had to ask a local for directions.  Once we found it, it was worth it.  Very picturesque.

Next Bill wanted to check out a hike up Battle Mountain.  Although it was only a half mile hike, it was straight up and VERY Rocky.  We didn't let that stop us, away we all went, even Lenny .  Shannon.and.Carl would have been proud of Lenny traversing those huge boulders.  A couple of times he made the wrong decision.the way to go and he rolled down a couple boulders. But he learned and made it the whole way up to the top and back down without mishap.

By now it was time to eat so keeping with Maine file's we had lobster stew and crabcakes.

Tuesday - small towns

<p>Today we decided to explore several small towns north of Tenants Harbor, Thomason, Rockport, Rockland, and Camden.&nbsp; Thomason was a nice little walking town. They had an unusual outdoor walking museum throughout their town.  We had packed our lunch so at the end of the museum we ate lunch overlooking their harbor. Sun was out but it was very breezy.

A wine break

Just stopped at Breakwater Vineyards to taste their blueberry wine (and a few other ones.  The blueberry one is similar to a merlot so we got a couple bottles.

Continuing up the coast and stopping at small towns along the way.

First lighthouse

Before we left Portland, we visted Fort Williams and the head light (lighthouse).  The weather is beautiful blue sunny skies and perfect temperatures.  We walkway around the trails near the fort and headlight.

It's lobster time

Made it to Portland, Maine. Lenny did very well on the trip up, sleeping most of the time. The Maine Info Center was pet friendly and had a nice pet walk.  Now we are sitting outside at Docks Market waiting for our lobster dinner.
