Then we decided to would venture on the Waterfall Way, a scenic road east of Armidale.
We started out hiking in Baker's Creek Falls and Chandler Falls in the Wollomombi Gorge. This is a rainforest but it's a dry one and it's really dry because they haven't had much rain. It got quite hot hiking there.
Next, we drove to a very small town called Ebor. The post office and the cafe were in the same building. Told you it's a small town. Ate lunch and sent postcards to the grand kids. Sending postcards email isn't cheap -- $2.35 each.
The next town was Dorrigo, pop 1192, so a little larger. The Dorrigo National Park was here. Dorrigo National Park, part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area offers stunning scenery that has been millions of years in the making. The park contains a range of forest types that protect an enormous variety of animals and birds, like red-necked pademelons, the vibrantly coloured wompoo fruit-dove and the spectacular regent bowerbird.
We first walked out on the Skywalk which gives you a view looking down on the rainforest canopy. Then we hiked for about 2.5 hours through the rainforest. Take a look at these huge trees.
Here's the Crystal Shower Falls waterfall from the rainforest. You can walk behind the falls.
That's me looking out from behind the falls.
Was a beautiful, tranquil walk.
