Flying to the Land Down Under

Bill and I left Fillmore about 10:30, Friday, Oct 5 on a trip that has been on both of our bucket lists for awhile. We didn't think we'd be able to check this off our lists for some time but then Miriam Verbeek and Paul Martin came into our lives last June. While working on a project with Ted Alter, Paul and Miriam stayed at our house in the small apartment we have in our house. They told us all about their wonderful land and about their invasive species project. We told them about Bill's life as a community development educator and my work as an educational technologist. The rest is history. Ted contacted Bill about working on the project and said that my expertise in social media may be helpful.

So after several briefings with Ted Alter and many email discussions with Miriam and Paul, our flight schedule was set. Our itinerary while in Australia will be to visit landowners to deliver a survey to collect data for the invasive species project. We will spend about 2 weeks on the project and then about 1 week on our own exploring.

Join us as we travel to the wild and wonderful land down under. I'll try to use Aussie euphemisms as much as I can. I love their bloody language.

Day 1 (which turns into days 2 and 3 because we cross the international dateline)
-- Flew United Airlines from State College to Dulles to Los Angeles to Sydney to Armidale where we'll be headquartered.
-- from LAX to Sydney is a 14.5 hour trip. I slept most of that. Bill slept some
-- Food on United wasn't much to talk about but the plane ride was as comfortable as flying economy can be (no, we didn't fly first class :-(
-- Staying at Paul and Miriam's Bread and Breakfast
-- we'll have a couple days to recuperate and then we'll meet with Paul and Miriam for our briefing and set of expectations.
